Artnet Charity Silent Art Auction – artmarketblog.com

Artnet Online Auctions are hosting an online silent auction to benefit the Children’s and Cancer Blood Foundation. Founded in 1952, Children’s Cancer and Blood Foundation (CCBF) is the first and largest charitable organization dedicated to supporting the care of children with cancer and blood diseases. They do this by raising funds for the world renowned Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. Proceeds from this benefit will ensure that children and their families receive the most advanced, comprehensive care available.

The Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation Auction features over 100 Modern & Contemporary works of art by Richard Pettibone, Ugo Rondinone, Richard Serra and Massimo Vitali, among other renowned artists. Ninety works will be offered for sale via Silent Auction from September 5-16 closing Tuesday, September 16, 2008 1:00 PM EST. As well as being an extremely worthwhile cause, most of the works will have no reserve, and there will be no tax and no buyer’s commission associated with auctioned artworks. Charity auctions such as this are excellent opportunities to do something positive and get a piece of investment art at a bargain price. With just over two days to go many of the works being auctioned are well under the estimated prices. Most of the works are by up and coming younger artists such as Jeff DeGolier and Olaf Breuning with estimates ranging from a few hundred dollars.

I particularly like the photograph Nate, Matthew and Ella at the Pink Cove Thursday May 29th 2008 9:11-9:22pm by Matthew Pillsbury who won the highly prestigious HSBC foundation for photography prize in 2007 and is really making a name for himself in the art world. Also worth paying extra attention to is the work by Jeff DeGolier whose work was recently shown as part of the California Occidental Museum of Art, a periodic artspace in Humboldt Park, Chicago, from 2006-2008.
